Eyelid Pre-Operative Instructions

  • Make sure you read your instructions carefully and thoroughly.
  • Failure to read and follow these instructions can result in your surgery being cancelled or rescheduled.
  • Make arrangements to have an adult drive you to and from our facility on the day of surgery. They will need to remain in the waiting room throughout your surgery.
  • Plan on being at the facility for at least 2-3 hours.
  • If you develop a cough or any other illness that is concerning to you please call to reschedule your surgery. You must not cough during surgery.
  • Please make sure to have all of your medications ready several days before surgery to avoid any delays.
  • It is normal for the eyelids to ooze a day or two after surgery.

Please put old sheets or pillow cases on your bed as they may become blood stained.

BEFORE SURGERY:

1. Please discontinue any ASPIRIN PRODUCTS or BLOOD THINNERS as follows:

  • 1 MONTH BEFORE SURGERY: discontinue ASPIRIN
  • 14 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY: discontinue PLAVIX, XARELTO, and NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Meloxicam, etc.
  • 7 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY: discontinue SUPPLEMENTS such as garlic, ginger, or ginseng.
  • 5 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY: discontinue COUMADIN. You may use Lovenox if it is cleared by your primary physician or cardiologist

**We will need surgical clearance from your doctor/cardiologist stating that it is OK for you to be off of the above medications. Have the doctor’s office fax the surgical clearance to (432) 694-7414.**

2. We will send an antibiotic ointment prescription to your pharmacy. Please have this filled and ready before your surgery date. The ointment will be used after surgery.

THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY:

  1. You may eat breakfast or lunch.
  2. Please wear comfortable old clothing in case of any oozing from the surgical site following surgery. Leave jewelry and valuables at home. DO NOT wear eye makeup.
  3. When you arrive at the facility, please sign in at the front desk. Then have a seat in the waiting room and the pre-op nurse will call you back. You will be given medication to help you relax in the pre-op area.
